A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, donated by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
