Catherine's Annual Christmas Musical Celebration Honours Community Volunteers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will hear a mix of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The theme of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Performance and Potential

Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to budding artists backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the trust, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

This annual carol service will be aired by television on December 24th.
