Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the United States has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - stated they have intercepted missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Additional Developments

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," it added.

Officials reported wreckage landed in a populated district in the capital, causing some structural damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
