LA Erupts in Jubilation as Dodgers Secure Second World Series Championship
The City of Angels witnessed citywide celebrations after the Dodgers clinched a nail-biting seven-match World Series title. Supporters across the globe joined Angelenos in celebration, marking the initial time in 25 years that a franchise has secured consecutive championships.
Victory Parade Draws Massive Crowds
Local celebrations featured a downtown parade on the morning of the parade, a ticketed rally at Dodger Stadium, and spontaneous parties across the city.
Social media videos show countless of Los Angeles residents packing city center avenues, many carrying handmade banners and Dodger flags. The team was seen traveling proudly on a open-top bus through the crowds, raising the Commissioner’s trophy proudly.
“I’m already thinking about the next championship we’re going to do this,” Shohei Ohtani stated through an translator.
The parade route ended at Dodger Stadium, where the team walked out to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard providing music and the artist cruising a light blue vintage Cadillac around the stadium’s outfield.
Early Celebrations and Athlete Responses
Festivities started prior to the procession, with supporters setting off fireworks in the streets of Downtown Los Angeles on the previous evening.
The World Series MVP, awarded the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, commented directly about the win.
“Losing is not an option,” he said. “I adore this team. I love Los Angeles.”
Varied Responses and Community Spirit
In contrast, the team owner received a less warm welcome at the rally. Video footage from the event appear to show Walter walking onstage to a combination of cheers and jeers, with negative shouts punctuating his speech.
The World Series served as a bright spot in what has been a challenging year for the city. An approximate 225,000 people attended to the Dodgers’ victory parade last year, and according to team member Freddie Freeman, fans this year demonstrated as much if not more support.
“I feel like it’s almost double from last year,” Freeman said. “The supporters are incredible. It’s truly amazing to be a part of this.”
