First-choice XI

Dean Henderson Was rarely tested to perform before the break but then forced to intervene from an opponent's bent shot. A sliding tackle on an Albanian attacker showed his game intelligence. 6/10

Jarell Quansah Examined by Albania’s main danger through their forward. Played in a central role to begin with but moved out wide once Saka came on. Seven

John Stones Moved forward with the ball at his feet, a familiar role in the past. Sometimes was too casual when carrying play with the approach was shelved at half-time. 6

Dan Burn A constant threat from dead balls, typically, could serve as a replacement for his teammate at the back rather than alongside him. A careless distribution in the second half almost led to a goal from Albania. Six

Nico O’Reilly One more composed showing from the rising star after his first cap versus Serbia. Saka did not capitalize on the opportunity from a clever flick behind the Albania defence. The left-back spot is firmly his at this stage. Seven

Adam Wharton A debut start in an England shirt. A bit loose on the ball though his whipped set-pieces caused problems. An effective pace-controller for the boss to have against sides that sit back. Shown a yellow after a reckless foul. 6/10

Declan Rice Set-pieces on corner kicks and free kicks caused problems. Had room to drift down the left flank yet found himself in an offside position upon receiving in shooting positions. Awarded a deserved substitution around the 60-minute point. 6

Jude Bellingham Functioned in a high spot out wide while also contributed with the hard yards. Showed glimpses of brilliance and dragged an attempt over. Substituted in the closing stages for a teammate, his rival, following a yellow card. 7/10

The winger Had England’s top opening before halftime, his strike excellently kept out by the opposing goalkeeper. With Quansah staying deep, he was forced to provide width on the right but his crosses from the touchline varied in quality. Substituted for the final quarter-hour. 6

The captain The decisive figure scoring seventy-seventh and seventy-eighth finishes at international level. His first a typical close-range tap-in and the second a classy finish with his head after peeling away away from the opposition. Aged 32, he continues to improve and England stand a real opportunity in future competitions with him leading the line. 8/10

Eberechi Eze Found it tough to make an impact out wide. Had a decent opportunity after being played in by Bellingham however the keeper denied him. Rashford had a greater effect in his place. Five
