The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed a number of fascinating future games, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a young woman containing multiple personalities within her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Inside her reside four separate souls, each with unique anxieties and drives. These entities can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a creepy medical facility, while additional clips depict the main character navigating a desolate church.

A World of Personal Horror

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to other people can trigger something primal inside us. This game explores that idea — fears that are unique to each person."

The central mechanic revolves around controlling the persona that emerges at any given moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become amplified and attack the girl in succession. As the persona changes, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the lobby have enormous blooms where their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four souls claims that the body is rightfully them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

Once players believes a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, since each soul can lie or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The last one standing might be a fake. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
