The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
